About Us

Bega Cheese Limited has a long and uniquely Australian history that all started with humble beginnings in dairy.

In July 2017, Bega expanded its portfolio to include some of Australia’s
most loved brands and products: Vegemite, ZoOSh and of course, Bega Peanut Butter.

For over 55 years, the Peanut Butter factory and its staff in Port Melbourne have been dedicated to crafting Australia’s favourite Peanut Butter.

Since becoming part of the Bega portfolio, the only thing that has changed is the name! Our peanut butter is made in the same place, by the same people, with the same recipe for the same Never Oily, Never Dry peanut butter that Australian’s love. We source only the best Hi-Oleic peanuts, rich in good fats (Monounsaturated Fats), for the best, freshest roasted peanut taste. With no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives across our range, there’s a delicious Bega Peanut Butter product for all Australian’s to enjoy.

Bega has a strong tradition of partnering with Australian farmers

Bega has a strong tradition of partnering with Australian farmers. In 2018, we purchased the Peanut Company of Australia (PCA), to ensure the peanut industry in Australia can thrive for many years to come. Partnering with Australian farming communities, we’re working to grow supply of Australian peanuts, driving the sustainability and growth of what was a fragile Australian primary industry.

Unknown to most, peanuts are not nuts at all, they’re actually a legume, and are a tricky one to grow! They grow below ground in rich and sandy soils, requiring a precise amount of water and sunshine. The sun-ripened fields of Queensland are optimal peanut country, with the tropical climate producing some of the most mature (aka flavoursome) peanuts in the world.

However, drought and competition for land has made it difficult for our farmers to continue to grow enough peanuts to keep up with demand. We estimate that Australia now grows less than 50% of the peanuts we consume, with the rest coming from overseas – which is simply nuts!

Bega is working hard in partnership with Australian peanut farmers, investing in both peanut production and processing initiatives. There are over 100 farming families in communities across regional Queensland who are relying on this investment to support the increase of peanut production and sustainability of the industry for generations to come.

Australians love our peanuts, and Bega is on a mission to ensure we can get the best Aussie grown peanuts all year round!
